Though Iím submitting it in January, I started this piece over the summer and finally finished it in December. I am not sure exactly how long this particular piece took because I worked on it off and on, but maybe 9 hours?
My goal for this picture was to create a whimsical fantasy piece that plays with interesting colors, specifically teal, magenta, orange, and purple. Yellow somehow worked its way into the piece, but it adds a bit of brightness to the other colors.
Though I like the flow of her robes and hair, her face looks kind of ďmeh.Ē If I could do this picture over again, I would color the other fish like the one on the right hand sideóthe use of orange with yellow makes it glow, and the other two seem dull in comparison. Also, I would make the borders of her sleeves golden-yellow instead of orange to tie them in with the rest of her outfit.
On the positive side, I am really happy to see this piece finished. As of January 2013, I think this is the highest-quality piece in my gallery. Also, the flying bird-fish were a lot of fun to draw, and Iím tempted to use them again in the future.
